Anton is an experienced trade union leader, financial risk professional and policy specialist with over three decades of experience across banking, public policy, labour advocacy and institutional governance in Papua New Guinea.
He began his career with BSP Financial Group in 1992 when the bank operated as a subsidiary of National Australia Bank, serving in various senior roles before exiting in March 2010 as Risk Manager. In 2011, briefly serving as Internal Audit Manager with National Development Bank.
Between late 2008 and 2009, Mr. Sekum was seconded by BSP to the Department of Treasury as Project Manager for the Development of the Domestic Debt Market project sponsored by the Asian Development Bank.
He has been actively involved in the trade union movement since 1999 and currently serves as Assistant General Secretary of the Papua New Guinea Trade Union Congress since 2018.
Mr. Sekum has represented workers on key national platforms including the 2013 and 2024 Minimum Wages Boards, National Tripartite Consultative Council, National Training Council and Minimum Wage Consultative Committee including others.
He holds qualifications as a Certified Risk Analyst from American Academy of Financial Management (Florida, USA), an Associate Diploma from the PNG Institute of Banking and Business Management, and a Post Graduate Diploma from Massey University (Palmerstone North, NZ). Mr. Sekum is also certified as a policy specialist through studies with the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization in Turin, Italy.
